What Our Students

are Saying...

I love GMAU! I joined 5 years ago as a Krav Maga student. I have trained under several different schools and by far GMAU is the best. The instructors are top notch. They give very detailed, inspirational instructions that keep me motivated. I also recently became a student of the GMAU Muay Thai program. GMAU has several styles to choose from all taught by expert instructors. The innovative approach of online training allows me to train at my pace and on my schedule. The freedom to go back and re-watch a lesson, class or technique has been so helpful and really sets GMAU apart from traditional martial arts schools. I highly recommend GMAU and have done so for years.

So you have got to be asking yourself, "If I train online, will I be as good as someone who trains in a dojo?”
You will be better, and here's why:
1. A home-schooled student is a very committed and motivated student. It takes a lot more dedication to training alone and to keep at it when no-one is watching.
2. You will be able to train more often.
Online training is more convenient. You can fit 20 minutes in a lunchtime in your office whereas if you had to drive to a dojo, get kitted up, do a 40 minute class and drive back to work it would never happen.
3. You can train when injured. I ruptured my achilles tendon and was in a cast. I would never have dreamed of walking into a dojo on crutches but with GMAU I plonked my plastered leg onto a chair, balanced on the good leg and kept training.
4.One can watch the videos again and again, pause them and look in detail at a particular move. That’s not possible in a dojo. It allows more attention to detail and gives you time to absorb the nuances of each move.
5. The instructors are top notch and they are there in your living room giving you one on one training. The feedback is individualised and there is no hiding. So any weakness is quickly exposed and corrected.
6. GMAU are good folk. You feel you are part of a caring community.

I have been a member of GMAU for over 3 years now and would highly recommend them to anyone considering training in a martial art.

I would just like to mention that ever since starting Krav Maga with GMAU it has been an awesome experience, so far. The way the classes are put across make it so easy to understand and follow along, I am learning so much, becoming fit and definitely feel more confident in myself. My only regret is that I didn't know about Krav Maga years and years ago. Thanks to everyone at GMAU for making it such an awesome experience.

Every experience I have had with GMAU has been great. The instruction is top notch. The site is easy to use. The lessons are comprehensive and the support is excellent. This is a fantastic way to learn a martial art.

Discovering the GMAU and it's extensive and professional range of martial arts training has been an absolute godsend for me ... Having the freedom to be able to learn a new skill and keep training, WHENEVER I WANT, has been absolutely brilliant. The level of instruction is fantastic, it really feels thorough and very thought-through - it feels achievable.

The GMAU membership website is great to use, very user friendly and I really like the personal feel of how it's laid out - with the discussion boards and interaction with the tutor - so I don't feel alone or isolated in any way. The recent creation of the community Facebook group is also great, it brings 'real-time' contact with other like-minded students and helps with motivation for sure.

I'm excited to continue my martial arts journey with the GMAU.

I have several GMAU courses. These are all quality instructors. What I would like to point out more than this is the friendly personality and how helpful everybody at the GMAU is. To me this is a stand out quality that used to be very hard to find in martial arts. Everybody who knew anything had a major ego that was a turn major off. You can still encounter this in local schools quite a lot, however. Online is becoming the way to go, plus as stated the GMAU staff is all very kind and genuinely helpful and interested. That is a good winning situation.

I have really enjoyed learning about Krav Maga. It is an art that fits my self defense needs and has helped to keep me fitter than I would otherwise be, especially during the limitations caused by the COVID pandemic. I luckily have a partner and circumstances that I can train with privately and continue to develop skills and ability with. I live in a small town where there are no brick and mortar martial arts schools of any sort, so GMAU’s distance learning format and ever expanding library of videos and resources make me confident that I will be learning new things and training for years to come! I recognize and appreciate GMAU’s drive and interest in expanding and developing the program and resources. The emphasis on developing the training material and interaction between students and instructors through media like Zoom is also something I think will become more and more important. Thanks for all you do!

Training in Total Krav Maga has really opened my eyes to a new love. It’s so simple yet so technical. I can’t get enough of it and I already train for 6 hours a week! All the videos are done very well and it’s great to know that an instructor is just an e-mail away

Commonly Asked Questions

Please feel free to reach out to us if you don't see your question below!

Do I Need a Partner to Participate in the GMAU Krav Maga Program?

A great deal of training can be done solo with a training bag and mirror. You should have a partner, however, to help you demonstrate your techniques in assignment and testing videos. Also, having a consistent training partner can help to get more hands-on practice.

How does testing work?

  • Train with the lessons and classes. Once you have logged the minimum training hours required, you are eligible to submit your test.
  • Next, simply follow the instructions on the testing page to film and submit your video exam.
  • Your instructor will do a detailed grading of your exam, and will also film a personalized feedback video with corrections and guidance.
  • Once you pass, you'll receive an official certificate of rank. If you don't pass the first time, you'll get corrections and can resubmit without paying another fee.
  • Do you offer a discount for additional family members?

Yes! Each additional family member receives a 50% discount on his/her tuition. It's easy to add new family members from your own account.

    Can I cancel at anytime?

Yes, there are no contracts or annoying cancellation processes. If you just don’t like the course, you can cancel. But if you fall on hard times and want to freeze your membership we can do that for you, too.

Does a portion of my monthly tuition go toward changing the world for the better?

Yes it does! We donate a good portion of our proceeds every month to people and projects that are making the world a better place. From planting organic gardens to feed the homeless, to a martial arts school teaching underprivileged kids, to good people who have fallen under hard times and illnesses, schools in Africa, people combating ailments with natural herbs, and more - we are working on helping others and spreading abundance.

Is your course aligned with a particular organization or association?

Yes, all rank earned is internationally accredited by the Global Martial Arts Association and National Krav Maga.

Is there a minimum wait between level certification exams?

There are no “forced waits” in our program. But we do require students to document their training/practice sessions in their Student Journals.
You must train a minimum number of hours and document each practice session in your Student Journal before you take an exam.
We do this for a few reasons:
    - It allows us to keep tabs on your progress, practice schedule, and training time. As your instructors we're in the loop, just as we would be if you attended physical classes with us.
    - The minimum training hours are designed so that you get enough repetitions in and develop muscle memory and instinctual reactions. It's not enough to just “know how to do a technique.” You should be able to execute it instantaneously without having to think. Sufficient, documented practice will get you there.
    - We want to maintain high standards of excellence and expectations so that your training, progress, and ranking is up to par to a Krav Maga student from a physical facility.

Will my certificate state that it was earned “online” or through “home study”?

No. GMAU rank certificates are the same as those awarded to physical training students. This is because we have the same syllabus, testing requirements, and student standards in our online course. Since you are not physically attending classes, you will need to put in extra work and have a much higher level of self-discipline in order to advance.

Is there a cost for testing? What does the test fee include?

Yes. Rank exams are $60 each for yellow to brown belt. The fee covers the time and energy your instructor takes to work with you and grade your exam. Your instructor will take a good amount of time to review your exam, grade it, make detailed notes, and work back and forth with you in communication. Your instructor will also film a personalized feedback video for you! Your instructor will demonstrate some of your errors, go over tips, corrections, guidance, and anything that will help you improve. The fee also covers your official certificate of rank.

What if I have previous martial arts rank and experience?

Great! Because you've trained in the past, you're an even better candidate for studying at home. If you hold rank in Krav Maga, you can follow our rank-transfer procedure. Otherwise, you will need to start at the beginning.

How can I transfer my current rank into the Global Martial Arts University?

We currently allow for rank transfers in our Krav Maga course. If you hold rank in Krav Maga, you are eligible. Here is the process for transferring rank:

    - You will first enroll in the course as a full (paid) student. Choose a payment option and subscribe.
    - Scan and send us a copy of your highest rank certificate to your grading instructor via the messages page in your GMAU account.
    - Pay the $85 rank transfer fee. This covers the instructors time in reviewing your rank transfer video and for our administrative time getting you transferred into the rank.
    - Review all the techniques from white belt to your current belt level. Then, film yourself demonstrating all testing requirements from white to your current rank. Upload your video as a YouTube 'unlisted' video and send a message to your instructor with its URL.

Your instructor will do a detailed review of your transfer rank video. If you're up to our standards of rank equivalency, we will honor your current rank and you can keep training toward your black belt and beyond.

Will I get access to the full course on Day 1?

Yes. Right after you've enrolled, you can access all levels of lessons, classes, and extras. You don't have to do the grading/testing, but it's an option you can take advantage of at any time!

Can I enroll my child into the course? What is the minimum age?

Yes! We have lots of kids training in this program. We recommend this program for ages 6 and up. For ages 6-9, the child will be most successful when a parent or other trusted adult assists or trains alongside at least sometimes. For ages 10 to 18, they can usually do the training on their own. The program is well designed for both kids and adults.
